The Mazuelo variety has been grown in La Rioja for several hundred years but today barely cover 3% of the Denomination’s surface area. It enables us to make wines with high levels of tannins and acidity and whose colour is stable, making it a good complement to Tempranillo and creating wines that can age for a long time. Beronia Mazuelo Reserva 2014 was made using pre-fermentation cold maceration and maceration at a controlled temperature of 26- 28oC, with regular pumping over to extract both colour and the desired aromas and thus its distinct varietal personality. This wine spent 24 months in barrels made with American oak staves and French oak ends. Once bottled, it was left to rest for at least 12 months in the winery before being released.
Beronia Mazuelo Reserva 2014 is a dark plum colour with maroon edges and is deep, clean and bright. Complex on the nose, it displays aromas of stewed fruit and nuts, along with delicate notes of nutmeg and essence of mint that adds freshness. Ripe fruit dominates on the palate, accompanied by touches of spice and mint. This wine is long, with very structured tannins typical of this grape variety, balanced acidity and a long, fresh finish.
This wine an ideal for drinking with charcoal-grilled meat, roasts, game dishes and cheese.
